Nuclear Weapons

Nuclear weapons are explosive devices that derive their destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission (the splitting of atomic nuclei) or fusion (the combining of atomic nuclei). When detonated, these weapons release enormous amounts of energy, resulting in massive explosive power, intense heat, and lethal radiation. Nuclear weapons have the potential to cause widespread devastation, loss of life, and long-lasting environmental harm. They were first developed during World War II and have since been a central component of national security strategies for several countries. The existence and proliferation of nuclear weapons are major concerns in international relations, leading to treaties and agreements aimed at non-proliferation and disarmament.
