Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game takes place on a diamond-shaped field, with four bases arranged in a square configuration. The objective is for the team at bat to score runs by hitting a pitched ball with a bat and then running to a series of bases to complete a circuit back to home plate. The opposing team, known as the fielding team, aims to prevent runs by getting players out through various means, such as catching fly balls, throwing the ball to a base before the runner arrives, or striking out batters.

Baseball is characterized by its distinct rules, including the regulation of innings, where each team has a turn to bat and a turn to field within each inning. The game is divided into two main phases: offense (batting) and defense (fielding). The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Baseball is known for its complex strategies, statistics, and iconic aspects such as pitches, batting averages, and home runs. Often referred to as “America’s pastime,” baseball has a rich history and cultural significance, particularly in the United States, where it is one of the major professional sports.
