Biathlon

Biathlon is a winter sport that combines two disciplines: cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Participants race over a distance on skis and must stop at designated shooting ranges to shoot at targets, typically in both prone and standing positions. The sport requires not only physical endurance and speed but also accuracy and precision in shooting. Athletes are penalized with additional distance or time for missed shots, making the sport a test of both athleticism and marksmanship. Biathlon has its origins in military training and has evolved into a competitive sport with various distances and formats in events, notably in the Winter Olympics and World Championships.
